Hunger Games is the story of a future world ruled by tyranny and fear. The past rebellion of District 13 has caused the wicked Capitol to institute the Hunger Games. Each of the 12 remaining districts offer up one boy and one girl in a fight to the death.
In District 12, in what is now known as Appalachia, a young girl named Katniss Everdeen provides for her family in place of her dead father. Along with her friend Gale, she hunts in the woods and collects food to supplement her family's income.
What will happen if she is chosen for the Hunger Games? Worse, what will happen if she must volunteer to save her sister's life?
This was a wonderful book. It is one of the few books I've read lately that I could hardly tear my eyes away from. It is a compelling story. I recommend it whether or not you plan to see the movie. The book will be better, of course!
