Katniss Everdeen Costume

Do you need a Katniss Everdeen Costume? The Hunger Games Movie is less than a month away. As you probably know, the main character of The Hunger Games is Katniss Everdeen. She takes the place of her younger sister during the "reaping".

Katniss, along with the District 12 mail tribute, Peeta Mellark, go to the Capitol to be presented with the other tributes. They go through training and presentations to the public. Finally, they enter the arena. The fight is to the death. Who will survive?

The movie promises to be extremely exciting. The trailers look great and the costumes are very impressive. I think many people will want to dress up in a Katniss Everdeen Costume for the movie premiere.

I found the perfect wigs for Katniss and Primrose! Maybe I will do a Primrose costume page. Hmm...

Fairy Coloring Pages For Adults

I am including Fairy Coloring Pages For Adults in my blog because coloring is such a popular activity with children. While children are coloring is the perfect time for adults to join in on coloring projects of their own. Many beautiful themes are available in grown up coloring books. I love the ones featuring fairies. They are classic, beautiful designs, not the Disney kind. Of course, many older children and teenagers would also be interested in classic fairy illustrations to color.

Another good reason to color fairies is to include them in crafts such as scrap booking, making note cards, and other designs. A beautiful set of stamps and colored pencils can add something special to your projects.

Moon In The Room

Moon in the Room is a wonderful decoration for a space themed room and also a great toy for children to enjoy. The moon is textured like the real moon and looks very realistic. It mounts on the wall and is operated by an included remote control. Using the remote, the moon can be turned on and off or cycled through the moon phases. The moon turns off automatically after 30 minutes to prevent battery drain.

Children are naturally curious about objects in the nighttime sky. Buying a light like this is a great way to teach them about the moon, or foster their desire to learn about it. Talking to kids about the moon, stars, and our solar system helps to familiarize them with topics they will learn in school also.

Disney Junior Jake and the Neverland Pirates

Jake and the Neverland Pirates is a children's show on Disney Junior. The show is set in Never Land, the home of Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and one hungry crocodile! Instead of Peter Pan, the show is about a trio of pirate friends. Jake is the leader and carries a wooden sword that Peter Pan gave him. Second in command is Izzy. She has special magic fairy dust that can be used to make the pirates fly. They are only supposed to use it when it is absolutely necessary. Cubby is the third and youngest member. He has a map of Never Land that they use to get around.

The show is a combination of a show and a video game. Conflicts arise, usually from Captain Hook, and then the kids have to solve puzzles or mini-quests. As they do they are rewarded with gold doubloons. They manage to wrap up the problem and resolution in 11 minute segments. At the end of the 2 segment episode there is live pirate rock music. This adds a very fun element to the show.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 Foreign Release Dates

Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD is being released on February 11, 2012. What some people may not realize is that the release date for other countries is often quite different.

I will add in Australia as it becomes available. Same thing for the release date for other countries. If you live in one of these other countries, please check your local DVD vendors to see if they will carry the Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD. I imagine it should be fairly easy to find.

Facts About Howler Monkeys

Howler Monkeys are the biggest monkey in the New World. They stand about 2 feet high at adulthood. The females tend to be smaller.

Howler monkeys eat leaves, fruits, and nuts. They love the tender leaves so they move from area to area searching for new feeding grounds.

Howler monkeys spend most of their time in the trees. They get all the food they need in the trees and most of their water supply is in the food they eat. During dry spells they will climb down and then drink from streams.

The howler monkey is one of the favorite foods of the Harpy Eagle. They swoop down and grab the baby howler monkeys, or even juveniles and adults. The howler monkeys use their distinctive howls to warn other monkeys in their troop, as well as to warn other troops of predators. They also do it so that rival troops do not stray into their territory.

Snow White and the Huntsman

The release date for Snow White and the Huntsman has been announced. The worldwide premier will be in London on May 14, 2012. The US release is June 1, 2012.

Snow White and the Huntsman is a action/fantasy movie that retells the classic Grimms fairytale. In this version, the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) ends up training Snow White. As her friend and mentor he has a much greater role in the story than previous movies.

Snow White is played by Kristen Stewart (Bella from Twilight). The Evil Queen is played by Charlize Theron.

The movie looks pretty exciting. One thing the trailer doesn't make clear is how much the Prince is in the movie and what role he plays.

This movie is not rated yet but my best guess would be that it will be PG-13. Many younger kids will probably be drawn to it and want to see it. I recommend watching it before you let your kids watch it.

Bigfoot Books

Bigfoot books are popular gifts for children, especially kids aged 7-11. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not Bigfoot really exists. One thing is for sure, Bigfoot is a type of monster in the eyes of kids, and monsters are so cool when you are young.

I have recommended two types of Bigfoot books. The first is more scientific and serious. These books explain the facts about Bigfoot. There is also information on hoaxes, sightings, etc. I have read two of the ones I recommend and I thought they were great. The information was balanced and presented so the reader could decide whether or not Bigfoot really exists.

The second type of books are more fairy tale types. Bigfoot cast as Cinderella, kids finding Bigfoot while camping, etc. Some children might enjoy these the same way they love vampires, elves, and fairies.

Personally, I think there is a good chance that Bigfoot is real. Even in today's modern world scientists discover new species all the time, or confirm the existence of ones thought mythical or extinct. I love the thought of our planet being full of surprises!
