Pre-Order the Playstation Vita Today

The Playstation Vita, also known as the PS Vita, is Sony's latest entry into the handheld gaming system market. The Vita is the successor to the Sony Portable.

The American and UK release date is February 22, 2012. If the Pre-Order Bundle is purchased through Amazon the system will ship a week earlier. The Vita was released in Japan on December 17, 2011.

The Vita is backwards compatible with older Sony games through downloads from the Sony Store. The system also supports chatting with friends, which will add to the gameplay experience.

The PS Vita comes in two different versions: the WiFi compatible device and a 3G/WiFi version. The Pre-order bundle is the 3G/WiFi, with a special, limited edition case, a 4GB memory card, and the addictive game Little Deviants.

The Vita is one of the hottest new pieces of technology for 2012. Originally it was planned to be released in time for Christmas, but then the date was changed to February. There is plenty of buzz and demand for it, both from longtime Sony fans, and those who love portable gaming.

I will post some reviews after the release!

Buy the Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire is the hottest Christmas gift for 2011. The Fire is the latest wireless reader from Amazon. It is more than just an e-reader, it is also an Android tablet.

You might be thinking, "Hey, this isn't for kids!" Tell my four year old that. She loves her dad's new Kindle Fire. It has a lot of fun apps on it that she can play. In fact, the whole family loves it. I would never buy one just for her, but she sure loves playing with it.

The Kindle Fire has a large screen with beautiful full color graphics. Children's books look absolutely amazing on it! I am pleased with how many e-books for children are available.

We also connected our Netflix account to it and now we have yet another way to watch cartoons and kid shows.

The Amazon Silk browser for Kindle is blazing fast and easy to use. I have no complaints about it at all.

I am looking forward to taking it with us when we go on trips or when the kids need to be distracted.

Air Swimmer Remote Control Inflatable Flying Shark

The Air Swimmer Remote Control Flying Shark is simply amazing! This is a hot toy for 2011. It is such a fun idea. This is a great gift for kids or adults and a lot of fun for parties.

The inflatable shark is five feet long and three feet wide. You have to fill it with helium, you can go to any party store, and it will stay inflated for about two weeks. You also need three AAA batteries to run it.

This shark moves its tail from side to side with realistic swimming motion. With practice you can make it dive and make sharp turns.

If you ask yourself who needs a flying shark toy you will probably think of at least one person. This is perfect for the person that has everything or is hard to buy gifts for.

For those scared of sharks, there is also a remote control flying clownfish. It is very cute and younger kids might enjoy it more.

See them in action on YouTube!

I want this flying shark for myself!!

Hunger Games - The Movie

Hunger Games is the story of a future world ruled by tyranny and fear. The past rebellion of District 13 has caused the wicked Capitol to institute the Hunger Games. Each of the 12 remaining districts offer up one boy and one girl in a fight to the death.

In District 12, in what is now known as Appalachia, a young girl named Katniss Everdeen provides for her family in place of her dead father. Along with her friend Gale, she hunts in the woods and collects food to supplement her family's income.

What will happen if she is chosen for the Hunger Games? Worse, what will happen if she must volunteer to save her sister's life?

This was a wonderful book. It is one of the few books I've read lately that I could hardly tear my eyes away from. It is a compelling story. I recommend it whether or not you plan to see the movie. The book will be better, of course!

Tavern Puzzles

As a follow up to my last post on mechanical puzzles I wanted to include some videos on people solving puzzles. Do not watch if you do not want to see solutions!

I would love to say these were my videos, but they are fun ones I found on YouTube.

Tavern puzzles are great, but they can get frustrating. People have done these videos to help and I think so show off a bit.

I am pretty sure this is the blacksmith that made this puzzle. Very cool!

The Hanayama Radix solution. This puzzle gave my husband quite a bit of trouble!

Mechanical Puzzles and Tavern Puzzles

Mechanical puzzles are a type of puzzle that is held in your hands, rather than placed on a surface like a jigsaw puzzle. Mechanical puzzles, also called tavern puzzles, blacksmith puzzles, or dexterity puzzles, have been used by people for thousands of years. These types of puzzles are typically made out of metal. They can be large or small. The smaller puzzles are popular for children because they can be easier to hold.

Many mechanical puzzles are solved solely by logic, others require a great deal of dexterity, and still others need both. Most puzzle manufacturers grade their puzzles with the lowest number being the easiest and the higher numbers the more difficult ones. It is recommended that new puzzlers start out with a low number and work their way up.

The smaller puzzles, such as those made by Hanayama, are great for stocking stuffers. They are small, come in eight different levels, and they are fairly inexpensive. They make great stocking stuffers or gifts for someone that you don't know very well.
